The ceramic base has a light inside that lights up a plastic cylinder and reflects it off of a light blue painted surface - producing a very white light! The top portion has a 3 ways socket which allows one to create bright working or reading light, accent light or even just a night light! Extremely functional! This lamp is in very fine condition. Only light wear to the ceramic and enamel. The shade is in great shape and the lamp works exactly as it should! This lamp is a decorators dream, has rather rare blue and cream coloring and casts the whitest light - by design. The blue cast to the light flatters any interior decor! Painting insides of lamps blue was an old display trick to flatter clothes and wares in department stores as far back as the thirties as the science of light and color was better understood.
