This is an amazing abstract titled "The Conversation" and it captures the crescendo of mid century abstraction and mid century style! The mid century art movement embraced abstraction with a fervor that almost made it appear like a religious movement.
It was simultaneously an appeal at defiance with the past, while looking towards the future. Abstract art was liberating and abstract paintings are the mid century artists' Declaration of Independence!
The cultured well-to-do embraced this new movement and patronized the arts more as a result.
Art was "cool" again - just as it is now - and an original abstract on your wall illustrated to the world that you were both financially "comfortable" and sophisticated!
"The Conversation" is written in pencil verso on frame.
This is a rare surviving ORIGINAL mid century abstract oil painting. With a bit of imagination and looking through a Picasso lens of the world, one can see two people conversing - or perhaps iti s the colors and shapes themselves that are having "The Conversation"
